SSPC – QP8

The SSPC-QP8 accreditation confirms Champion capability to meet specific requirements around the installation of polymer coatings on concrete-like surfaces.

QP8 Accreditation Background

The QP8 certification is a prequalifying tool used by site owners, protective coating specialists, and engineers. This accreditation ensures that a contractor such as Champion has the proper technical capabilities to install polymer coatings on concrete surfaces in commercial, industrial, institutional, and marine facilities.

Program Requirements

To receive QP8 accreditation, companies are assessed on:

  • Personnel qualifications
  • Technical knowledge
  • Safety, health, and environmental compliance
  • Management procedures
  • Quality Control procedures

They must demonstrate:

  • Substrate evaluation, repair, and treatment
  • Surface preparation operations
  • Coating installation over concrete and other related surfaces
  • Field implementation of quality program
  • Adherence to conditions and restrictions set by the owner

Evaluation Process

To obtain SSPC-QP8 accreditation, contractors must submit documentation that describes their business operations. These include preparation and maintenance of Quality Control reports and evidence that program requirements have been in place for at least six months prior to evaluation.

Then, an impartial, on-site audit will be used to verify that approved practices and programs are implemented and used to complete contracted projects. A company that fails to meet the program’s standards will be subject to disciplinary action, which can include warning or even suspension of accreditation. A contractor is expected to use the apply QP8’s required procedures for all applicable projects.
